  1. The APA survey also highlights how almost 33% of employers make payroll errors, thanks to manual data entry. The cost of such errors is significant, 1-8% of the total payroll
  2. According to data from the CRA, 75% of employees admit to stealing at least once from their employer, with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners adding that businesses lose an estimated 5% of their annual revenue to fraud – which includes employee theft.
  3. A different study by Nucleus Research found that 74% of employers experience payroll losses due to buddy punching. These losses average 2.2% of gross payroll
  4. According to a study by Software Advice, 43% of hourly employees admitted to exaggerating the hours they worked in a week. Data from the American Payroll Association found the most common examples of time theft are: taking longer breaks than allowed (54%), arriving late or leaving early (53%), and wasting time on the internet or social media (44%).
  5. Buddy punching affects nearly 75% of companies.
  6. The American Payroll Association (APA) estimates that automation reduces payroll processing costs by as much as 80%, much of that from reducing errors in invoices and paychecks.
  7. A survey by the American Payroll Association (APA) found that business owners lose up to 7% of their annual payroll because of time theft.
  8. The American Payroll Association estimates that it can take as long as 7 minutes to total and audit each employee’s time card or timesheet. Even with a few employees, this can really start to add up.
  9. Small leaks in your budget or wasted minutes of your employee’s time can cost you greatly. 90% of employees have admitted to wasting time on the clock and 20% of adults admit to being chronic procrastinators.
  10. Businesses lose an estimated $400 billion in productivity annually due to payroll fraud. Buddy punching is a part of that according to the American Payroll Association.
  11. A 2019 survey by TSheets revealed that 44% of employees admitted to adding between 15 to 60 minutes to their timesheets at least once, and 24% admitted to exaggerating their hours more than 80% of the time.
  12. Prolonging approved meal periods and rest intervals is a prevalent type of time misappropriation. Smoke breaks are especially expensive. An Ohio State University study revealed that smokers, on average, cost their employers $5,816 more than their non-smoking counterparts. This is primarily attributed to extended breaks and decreased productivity.
  13. For many workers, privacy is not the No. 1 concern about GPS tracking. Employees in the US, Canada, and Australia are more concerned about data and battery drain than privacy when being tracked by a GPS app at work. Only British workers cite privacy as their No. 1 concern.
  14. An independent survey of 1,000 employees in 2017 found that 16% admitted to clocking in for a colleague. The same survey found that timesheets are most commonly submitted weekly and that when errors are made, the most common mistake people make is to add an extra 15 minutes.

  20. According to our internal statistics, approximately 1/3 of companies reaching out to us do so because they become aware of “employees stealing time”. This goes up to 2/3 when talking about construction companies.
  21. While not always a bad thing, employees may try to grow the volume of their overtime hours, as these are paid with a factor of 1.25-2. In more serious situations you may see employees working with minimal efforts for entire shift only to do 2-3 hours of overtime to make up for low efficiency. In most cases, overtime (and paying for it) has to be authorized by management, but lack of workforce essentially forces companies to pay. Middle managers are normally aware of this tactic but turn a blind eye to “allow colleagues to earn an extra 100 euros”.
